The Canadian National Committee of the International Union of Radio Science

The International Union of Radio Science (Union Radio-Scientifique Internationale or URSI) is a non-governmental and non-profit organization under the International Council for Science (ICS).  


It shares and supports ICS's mission of catalyzing and convening scientific expertise, advice, and influence on issues of major concern to both science and society, through a unique global membership of natural and social sciences and humanities. 


In addition to stimulating and coordinating international cooperation in research related to electromagnetic waves and their applications, the mission of the Canadian National Committee of URSI includes:

  • promoting education regarding electromagnetic waves and their applications in support of public policy discussions concerning climate change, biological effects of electromagnetic radiation, and fair and equitable allocation of the radio frequency spectrum
  • supporting museum curators, archivists and historians who are preserving and presenting  the history of radio science in Canada for the benefit of the general public

The National Research Council of Canada is the adhering member of URSI for Canada and appoints the members of CNC-URSI.
